U9Y7Under 9 Youth's22/03/2009Under 8 SPL Div 3Cougars Youth 3 Knaphill 1 The boys hosted Knaphill on a glorious sunny Mothers Day. We were looking to gain revenge for the 5-2 loss against the same opposition earlier in the season. The game kicked off in blazing sunshine. The early signs were good as we pushed Knaphill back and looked the better team. Some resolute defending by Knaphill and some poor passing by us meant that we really never threatened their goal. As the half wore on Knaphill started to gain a foothold in the game. They started to play the ball long to their giant of a forward whose size seemed to intimidate the Cougars defenders who stood off him allowing him too much time & space. Knaphill took the lead in controversial circumstances. With play stopped for Archie to tie his laces & for Jack to change his shirt the ref for reasons best known to himself restarted play with Jack still in the process of changing his shirt. He waved away protests from the sidelines and the inevitable happened a long ball found the Knaphill forward who was again allowed too much time inside the box and scored with a crisp finish. Definitely an assist for the ref on this one! Despite protests from the boys the goal was allowed to stand. This rattled the boys and they could easily have conceded a second goal but Knaphill were unable to capitalise. With the first half coming to an end we finally played some football some good link up between Archie & Jack almost resulted in Chris scoring at the far post. Half time and we trailed 1-0. We needed a big improvement in the second half if we were going to get something out of the game. We started well pushing forward but for once the normal smooth passing game was missing. Both Archie & Chris were working hard but were unable to find the final pass. At the other end Charlie & Callum were showing a lot more aggression against the Knaphill forward both effectively marking him out of the game. We forced a series of corners and were finally rewarded with a goal when Benito pounced on a loose ball to fire it home to make it 1-1. Cougars were now on top but still couldn’t force a clear chance. At the other end Ben was forced into a good save but other than that Callum & Charlie looked to have things under control. With 3 minutes to go Cougars went in front the ball was passed out wide to Jack who hit a high looping cross shot that flew over the Knaphill keeper and into the net to spark off wild celebrations. We almost added a third soon after when Luke was denied by a great save by the Knaphill keeper. With time almost up Chris did well out on the left and crossed the ball to Luke who made no mistake in turning the ball home for a much deserved first goal of the season. The game finished in a 3-1 victory for Cougars.A good win for the boys despite the fact that they played far from their best today. This still keeps us in the hunt for second place but we will have to play a lot better next time against Beaulieu Rockets.Man of the match went to Chris who put in a good shift down the left. Best effort went to Luke who was asked to play in several positions and did well in all and topped it of with his first goal of the season. Finally best of luck to the U9 A’s in their senior cup final next week, just don’t let Hobbsy ref it!SquadBen, Charlie, Callum, Luke (1), Jack (1), Benito (1), Chris & Archie U9 Youth Home page 31WOKING COUGARSThe Football Family http://www.surreyfa.co.uk/ http://www.splsoccer.com http://www.scgl.co.uk/ http://www.make-a-wish.org.uk/ http://www.wphfc.co.uk http://www.jalosty.co.uk http://www.psrcoaching.co.ukThis website was created using MAGIX Website Maker You will need the current version of Adobe Flash Player to view it.
