U9Y4

Under 9 Youth's Cougars Youth 4 Walton & Hersham 6 The boys had their first home game of the season against a very strong Walton team. After last weeks second half collapse Lorenzo was looking for a good response from the boys and despite the eventual defeat he wasn’t disappointed. The boys started well and almost went in front when Jack burst clear down the right and fired a shot just wide. Walton went in front against the run of play when some good work found their striker who fired home. A second soon followed when the unlucky Benito deflected a corner into his own goal. However he soon made amends when he was allowed time and space outside the area and fired home a trademark left foot strike to reduce the deficit to 1-2. Just before half time Walton increased their advantage to 3-1 when some good individual play from their forwards resulted in a goal. Half time 1-3.The boys again started well in the second half but were unable to find a way through the Walton defence. The visitors added a fourth when some great wing play on their left resulted in a fine cross that was converted. With the boys now trailing 4-1 I was expecting their heads to drop however they showed great character and battled on. They pulled a goal back when a ball was played into the area, Archie made a nuisance of himself which resulted in some hesitation in the defence that was pounced on by Jack to pull one back. A third followed when Chris beast two defenders and coolly slotted home to reduce he score to 3-4. Unfortunately straight from the kick off Walton scored when their left winger again took advantage of some slack defending and crossed for their forward to score to make it 3-5. The game was swinging end to end with both teams giving 100% and playing some fantastic football. Both Jack & Luke made great runs but were denied by some fantastic saves by the Walton keeper at the other end Ben made at least 2 fine saves. Cougars reduced the arrears to 1 when Archie was released down the right and somehow from an acute again fired home to make it 4-5. Cougars threw everything at Walton in search of an equalizer but couldn’t manage to force the breakthrough. Walton secured the points when they scored with a fierce shot from the edge of the Cougars area. Final score 4-6.Unlike last week the boys can hold their hides high this week despite this defeat. This was tremendous effort against a very good team if the boys put in regular performances like this I have no doubt they will climb up the table.Benito was awarded best effort this week; he scored a fine goal and worked tiresly in midfield. Man of the match was awarded to the whole team. Big thank you to Callum who was asked to replace the injured Paolo this week and put in a solid performance.SquadBen, Charlie, Luke, Jack (1), Benito (1), Callum, Chris (1), Archie (1) & Matt
