U9Y2Under 9 Youth's Guildford FC 2000 3 Cougars Youth 1 Despite a great performance the boys suffered their first defeat of the season away to Guildford. The first half saw the boys play some of the best football we have seen from them. Some great passing and movement between the midfield resulted in a series of corners. Several balls flew into the Guildford area without falling to a Cougars player. We had several shots from the edge of the area which was dealt with by the impressive Guildford keeper. Archie looked to have broken the deadlock when he burst clear down the left and fired in a shot which was superbly saved by the Guildford keeper. With the half drawing to a close and after 20 minutes of total Cougars domination when we lost possession of the ball in midfield and were caught with too many players up field . Two quick passes by Guildford exploited this leaving their striker free to score. Half time Guildford 1 Cougars 0.We started strong in the second half but conceded a sloppy second goal from a rare Guildford corner which we failed to clear and the ball was prodded home by a Guildford player. As the half wore on Guildford came more into the game and both teams played some attractive football. Cougars got a deserved goal when Paolo’s shot hit the post and rolled along the line, Jack followed up to score. Any hope of a Cougars comeback where short lived when Guildford put together their best move of the match down the left that released their striker who hit a fierce cross shot that was well saved by Ben, unfortunately the rebound fell to a Guildford player who scored to make it 3 – 1. The boys tried hard to get back into the game and pressed forward but they were either denied by some resolute defending or the referee’s whistle (can anyone tell me the rule that says outfield players have to stand still at goal kicks!). Guildford always looked dangerous on the break but some good defending by Luke and Benito kept them out. Full time Guildford 3 Cougars 1.The boys were unlucky not to get anything from this game. It is easy to point the finger at the referee who made shall we say some bizarre decisions that always penalised Cougars but in truth we should have been out of sight by half time. This league is a lot tougher this year and the boys have to learn to take advantage when they are dominating games as the teams we will be playing against will certainly create a lot more chances against us than those we faced last season.Man of the match went to Benito who played well filling in for the injured Charlie at the back. Best effort went to Archie who didn’t stop running and caused panic in the Guildford ranks every time he had the ball.SquadBen, Charlie, Luke, Jack (1), Benito, Paolo, Chris, Archie & Matt U9 Youth Home page 31WOKING COUGARSThe Football Family http://www.surreyfa.co.uk/ http://www.splsoccer.com http://www.scgl.co.uk/ http://www.make-a-wish.org.uk/ http://www.wphfc.co.uk http://www.jalosty.co.uk http://www.psrcoaching.co.ukThis website was created using MAGIX Website Maker You will need the current version of Adobe Flash Player to view it.
