Under 9'sWoking Cougars VS Woking TownSunday 2nd November 08 Having had the luxury of a week off following the nail biter against Byfleet 2 weeks ago, the boys were raring to go again and hopefully pick up a win and push on up the league. Today’s opponents bought Woking Town over to us for only our 2nd home game of the season. This fixture along with the last 3 gave us a very difficult run and the boys were looking for the win to boost confidence. This week’s Ref was Barry ‘The Team Lawyer’ Losty and looking at the state of him it was not going to be an easy morning. He pitched up resembling the wobbling Vodka Jelly shots that had got the better of him the night before. Having scoffed the entire contents of the burger van, he felt better and was ready to get the game under way.Benito was drafted in to replace the absent Xav to form a defensive partnership with Hobbs Jnr which had proved so effective on Tour this year. The 1st half started with James being clobbered in the 1st 5 seconds after chasing down the oppositions huge No6 and receiving the full fury of a ball in the face. Time for a substitution. Sam came on to replace James up front. The 1st half was a game of nip and tuck with both teams probing without any real clear cut chances. Jamie in goal was as solid as ever with assured handling and kicking, Benito & Adam held up at the back bearing in mind the size of some of the opposition players. Woking Town made a breakthrough just before half time when an attack came down the right flank where the ball was crossed in and following a shot by their striker the ball just scrambled over the line despite Jamie’s brilliant attempt to claw it away, 0-1. ‘Mr Wobble’ in the centre blows the whistle for half time and it is now down to ‘Hinge & Brackett’ to give the boys a pick me up. Following the half time feast of oranges the boys are back up and ready to go. James is back on having cleared his head and replaces Sam up front. The 2nd Half was not too dis-similar to the 1st with both teams having a go and the tackles flying in from all directions. At this stage the boys have realised that not only are they in a football match but it was also quite a physical encounter as well.Mid-way through the 2nd half Ethan picks up the ball down the left, ghosts past his marker and plays a delightfully weighted ball to James who is on the penalty spot waiting to pounce. He places his shot to the left of the goalie 1-1 and we’re back in it.The remaining 15 mins resembled the Everton treatment room with tackles flying in everywhere with both teams pushing on to win the game. Sam who came back on for a shattered Ethan received the same treatment as James but this time in the stomach. Time for another substitution….. Ethan back on you go. Stef was all over the place chasing everything he could as was Lewis down the right. The boys at this stage started to mix it up a bit and James decided that their No 6 needed to be bought down a peg or 2 as well as their defender at the back. With both teams now giving their all it was only a matter of time before the winner went in and yes you’ve guessed it, it went to the opposition. With 5 mins to go, Cougars were caught down the left and an early ball in to the middle was finished with a shot that gave Jamie no chance 1-2. This left little time for us to respond and the ‘Wreck’ in the middle blew the final whistle. Next week’s game is away to Chertsey and with confidence in the team not at it’s highest and with a bit more luck hopefully we can pick up a win.Final Score: Woking Cougars 1 Woking Town 2Manager’s Quote: ‘Another good show, boys great, just need a bit of lady luck’.Coaches Quote: ‘The boys have it all apart from luck’ - Unlike Spurs then.Man of the Match – JamieGoals – JamesBest Effort – The TeamMatch Report Compiled By: John ’I have not yet written a winning match report’ Madico.
