U93Under 9'sByfleet Reds VS Woking CougarsSunday 19th October 08 Further to last week’s poor display to Mayford and the U9’s Dads being victorious in the annual Cougars Dad’s 5-a-side tournament, showing the boys how to do it, we travelled to Byfleet Reds. We were greeted with a lovely big pitch, which we hoped would allow the boys to knock the ball around like we know they can and exploit the space with the pace of our ‘gangly’ No 10 (quote from Byfleet Reds website again)Steve and Marc made a few tactical changes in midfield with Ethan playing on the left, Stef in the centre and Lewis on the right, thus hopefully being able to swing the ball forward and capitalise. The match started and almost immediately we nearly scored with the ball being cleared off the line. Byfleet’s lynch pin in defence, Jordan, who has had some great battles in the past 3 years with James, did not know what had hit him. Wave after wave of attack came his way with the Cougars playing some great football. Stef in the centre of midfield was playing a belter, despite the fact he had been laid up with illness for the past 7 days. Every tackle that came his way he won and with his head up and pinpoint accuracy played the ball up front to James who at this stage was playing ‘catch me if you can’ with Jordan. The ball was being pinged in from every direction. Ethan and Lewis were providing great ball from the flanks and how after 10 minutes we were not a goal in front is a bigger mystery than the depths of the Manager’s pocket. Jamie, Xavier and Adam at the back must have been wondering if they should have stayed at home. Finally after 15mins the breakthrough came with James breaking down the right firing in a low cross and tucked home superbly by Lethal Ethan, 0-1 to the Cougars. Their tails were up and pressing for the 2nd we didn’t have to wait long, as no sooner had the 1st gone in, James picked up the ball, burst through the middle, past 2 defenders and his shot nestled in the bottom corner of the net, 0-2.The 1st half finished on the same note with the Cougars pressing to kill off the game when the whistle blew. Time for the half time oranges. I am not sure who supplied them this week, but there must be some sort of Tottenham effect going on. Steve & Marc delivered their half time rally and basically told the boys to carry on, as they were brilliant in the 1st half. Why do we have half time?? I have found myself saying this for the past 3 weeks. Sam replaced Stef who was shattered after he had given his all in the centre of midfield. The 2nd half started as the 1st had finished with the Cougars looking to finish off Byfleet. Some good moves provided some very good chances with Dan pumping in the crosses but unfortunately we could not put the ball into the net for the illusive 3rd, which would have finished the opposition off.Byfleet were beginning to come back into the game and you could see that their confidence was growing with each attack they put together. A defiant Jamie, Adam and Xav shielded them off but they could only hold out for so long and all of a sudden, we were pegged back to 1-2 when Byfleet scored after the ball fell to one of their players in the box and he put it away.Byfleet were pressing for the equaliser now and pushing forward they won a corner on the right. The ball came in and rolled across the line after it came off one of our players 2-2.With the game going from end to end as both teams were looking for the win it was terrific stuff. Not helped mind you when the Ref immediately blows up when we are on the attack after one of their players goes down, miles from the ball but leaves James in a heap on the floor after the defender goes through the back of his knee without blowing up when Byfleet are on the attack.5 minutes to go and again we are hit by the sucker punch, pushing forward for the winner Byfleet grasped it and we didn’t, 3-2 to the home team.Final Score: Byfleet Reds 3 Woking Cougars 2Manager’s Quote: ‘The boys were brilliant but they need more luck in front of goal’.Coaches Quote: ‘Where’s my comb’.Man of the Match – LewisGoals – Ethan & JamesBest Effort – The Team U9 Home page 30WOKING COUGARSThe Football Family http://www.surreyfa.co.uk/ http://www.splsoccer.com http://www.scgl.co.uk/ http://www.make-a-wish.org.uk/ http://www.wphfc.co.uk http://www.jalosty.co.uk http://www.psrcoaching.co.ukThis website was created using MAGIX Website Maker You will need the current version of Adobe Flash Player to view it.
