Under 9'sWoking Cougars VS Mayford WanderersSunday 12th October 08 Further to last week’s poor 2nd half display to Farncombe. We had our 1st home game of the season against the old Orange foe, Mayford. This game was about bragging rights in the classroom for some of our boys and also the fact that we had never lost to Mayford who seem to feel that in last season’s 2 draws we were lucky. The game kicked off with ‘Team Lawyer’ Losty taking the helm as this week’s Ref. The 1st half was quite a cagey affair with both teams a little nervous about making a mistake that would lead to a goal. Mayford probed then we had a go and back and forth it went without any clear-cut opportunities. Mid-way through the 1st half Ethan played a delightfully weighted ball for James to run onto who having beaten the defender took the ball to his right and smashed in a low effort only to be equally brilliantly saved by Connor the Mayford goalie.15 mins in Lewis Puttock from Mayford lost his marker and started off on a run down the left where he fired in a shot that looped high over Jamie, who had no chance 0-1. This didn’t exactly spur either team to life as the match was still back and forth but again no further clear cut chances. Just before the break Cougars won a corner and Lewis played it short to Adam who from just outside the box launched one of his exocet missiles 1-1 brilliant. The ‘Team Lawyer’ blows the half time whistle, surely now the boys would take encouragement from having just scored and the wise words from Steve & Marc at the break. What entailed on the pitch in the 2nd half was what can only be described as terrible or should that be Tottenham. Every head went down bar Jamie’s. The boys could not string two passes together, their confidence gone and quite frankly they were having an off day. Adam, Callum, Jamie & Xav at the back were under constant fire and I don’t think it was because Mayford were playing well, it was our own doing. The midfield, missing Stef through illness, miss-fired and James up front was wondering around like a spare part because the ball was not heading his way. Mayford went on to notch a couple more goals and finish us off. A frustrating day for all. Steve and Marc after the match gathered the players together without the parents and delivered a post mortem that Quincy would have been proud of.Final Score: Woking Cougars 1 Mayford Wanderers 3Manager’s Quote: ‘Absolutely awful, the worst I have seen the boys play’.Coaches Quote: ‘I’m off to the hairdressers for a pick me up’.Man of the Match – Not GivenGoals – AdamBest Effort – Not GivenMatch Report Compiled By: John ’I have lost the will to live after that, and I’ve got to write a report on it’ Madico.
