Under 8'sSunday 18th January Farnborough Athletic 1 Cougars 7 After the lengthy Christmas break, the boys returned to action in Farnborough on a pitch that had more water than the Aldershot Lido. It was questionable as to whether the game should have been played at all, as the conditions were not good, but it was deemed playable and the only guaranteed outcome at this point, was that the mums were going to be busy with the washing machines later in the day The session started with stand in Manager Grant giving the boys a talk about space, passing and how he wanted to see them play. Whatever was said worked as the boys were about to embark on one of their best passing games of the season. A fairly orthodox set up saw Callum in goal, Kian and Louis playing in defence, Keir, Joseph and Zak constituted the midfield and Alex was up front. A lively start by both teams with the Farnborough Number 9 as the obvious threat, however it did not take long for the fore mentioned passing game to kick in and shortly after Alex scored with a run on goal followed by a neat slotting of the ball past the keeper. Great persistence by Keir shortly after rewarded him in grabbing the second goal which positioned Cougars really well, especially as there were playing uphill and against the wind in the first half. The passing game continued well, along with Zak making a number of fine runs down the right wing before sending in some great crosses. Farnborough netted before the half to make the game slightly competitive, but this was to last for only a short period before the boys took total control in the second half. The second half saw Nathan join the action and was nearly all one way with Alex scoring another four goals with Zac getting a fine goal after another typical long run The second half also saw one of the best shots of the season with Keir shooting from about 25yards, only to see his effort smash against the crossbar, it would most certainly have been a goal of the season had it ripped into the back of the net. All the boys played a great part in this win, Kian for a fantastic performance in a position that he does not normally occupy, Louis for his usual valiant efforts on field and in goal, Joseph for his part in holding up Farnborough in their midfield, it was a great team effort. However, there was a obvious candidate for Man of the match in Keir, as he played one of his best games ever for Cougars, a great and well deserved award to Keir (even with his Brazilian type 25 yarder). Bring on Claygate!!!
