Under 8'sWoking Cougars vs Elm Grove Red Dragons1st match of the new season and we were facing tough opposition! With a 12 o’clock kick off the boys took a bit of time to get into their stride and the first half was dominated by the Dragons. Frantic defending was called for.Louis had a great chance of a goal in the 15th minute created from a cross by AJ. This spurred the boys on and a few more chances came our way resulting in a penalty in the 17th minute.Joesph was chosen to take the penalty (Tricia couldn’t look) but he blasted the ball into the back of the net and against the run of play Cougars were in front! With a minute to go in the first half Nathan made a critical tackle on one of the Dragons who had got through on goal and we finished the half one up.The 2nd half saw some team changes – on came Alex, Keir and Zak and off came Joseph, Louis and AJ. The Dragons started strongly again – Andrew cleared the lines and Callum had to make a couple of saves early on. But eventually they got through the defence and equalised. The game went from end of end with Alex eventually scoring an unbeatable goal to make it 2-1 to cougars. But the Dragons kept going and after another couple of chances they eventually equalised with a stunning shot. Again Nick made some changes with AJ and Joseph going back on to strengthen the defence. The boys had to dig deep and Alex came up trumps again with a fantastic shot which again saw Cougars in front. With only a few minutes to go the Dragons pressed on and again managed to pull one back to make the final score 3-3!The boys knew they had been in a tough match and showed loads of character to get a draw.Nick announced Alex as Man of the Match for his two crucial goals.Well done boys – Frimley Green Eagles next week – no problem……………..
