U13 Girls Match Reports

COUGARS CLAW DRAWCOUGARS SHARE THE POINTS IN THE SEASON OPENER The 11th September 2011 brought about the new season with the small pitches a distant memory and a step up to the daunting full size pitch now a reality. Pre-match the Woking Cougars U13 girls faces looked a mixture of nervous terror and excitement. The Cougars first opponents of the 2011-12 season was an away fixture at Colne Valley. Woking started the first game with almost a full complement of 11 girls, with 4 substitutes playing a pivotal role in the game ensuring that the team kept up a high work rate. The Cougars were susceptible to slow starts in the 2010-11 season, however the new look team started with gusto and enthusiasm. A special congratulations goes to Fed Lo Manto, Fed took the honour in only the 2nd minute in racking up Woking’s first offside of this year’s campaign. Both sides took their time to find their feet with Colne Valley having the first attempt of the match in the 5th minute going well wide. Woking’s first attack of any note came in the 9th minute with Fed being fouled right on the edge of the Colne Valley penalty area. Fed took control of the free kick, not even a Colne Valley wall could keep the shot from rifling majestically into the oppositions net to give the Cougars a 0-1 lead. The match flowed well and both teams cancelled each other out until the 18th minute, Colne Valley attacked down the Cougars left side, the opponents got the ball across into the Cougars area for a relatively easy tap-in to even up the score to 1-1. The rest of the half carried on in the same vein with plenty of endeavour from both teams producing very few opportunities on goal. The first half came to a conclusion with Freya Chitty keeping the score at 1-1 with a fine double save and clearing her area, a job she did well all game. The Cougars absconded from the pitch with the first 30 minutes of the new season behind them, the work ethic from the whole team was exceptional, and with the rolling substitutes ensuring the work rate was maintained. The second half ensued with the same level of commitment. Colne Valley however, took the lead in the 36th minute scoring from a well taken corner. The rest of the second half the Woking Cougars searched for an equaliser, with the hard work finally paying off in the closing minutes of the match. In the 57th minute Katie Owen launched a trademark long throw in finding Eloisa Bedford in the Colne Valley area. The Cougars debutant Eloisa then lofted the ball over a defender before calmly chipping the ball over the Colne Valley keeper and into the opposition net. With the final whistle signalling the end of the match, both teams received a well-deserved applause from the fanatical crowd. With the amount of work the girls from both sides put in, neither side deserved to lose a well spirited but closely fought match, with a 2-2 draw a fair and reasonable result. As long as the girls apply themselves every weekend comparable to this match the goals and therefore the points will be flowing freely this year. A good solid start to the season, well done girls!!!!!!!Team: Freya Chitty, Lucy Chapman, Caitlyn Hawkins, Erin Hobbs, Ellie Brooker, Eloisa Bedford, Federica Lo Manto, Koyo Akadi, Devon Harvey, Gaby Banasiewicz, Katie Owen, India Toller, Amy Lee, Nicole Muller, Georgia CarderScorers: Federica La Manto, Eloisa Bedford
