Under 12 GirlsSunday 12th October 2008Kingstonian Youth 1 Woking Cougars U12 Girls 4The fifth away game on the bounce for the girls, against a team that struggled last season. But any one of the Cougars who thought it would be a walk over needs to take a look at themselves after this performance in which the final score flattered the away team. Perhaps that was the problem – the girls thought the game was won just by turning up. But Kingston are a much better team this season, and Cougars had to work hard for a victory they did not deserve. Early pressure saw Steph go close and a rare Ashleigh shot come back off the crossbar, but Cougars were struggling to get their passing going in a scrappy game. Lauren in goal was kept on her toes in goal as Kingston threatened on the break in the early exchanges. About 10 minutes before half time a corner on the right was fired in by Chloe, which caused chaos in the home defence, the ball eventually ending up in the back of the net after rebounding off Megan, something she didn’t know much about. Terry was happy though – she “took a gamble”. Soon Steph added a second after a superb strike from a tight angle, and Cougars trooped off at half time 2-0 to the good. But Terry wasn’t happy as he stressed the importance of “imposing yourselves on the opposition” in his half time team talk. It fell on deaf ears as Kingston pulled one back early in the second half from a looping cross come shot that dipped in under the cross bar and had some spectators calling for the video ref, but it was clearly a goal. Kingston pushed hard for an equaliser but Cougars held firm and scored 2 more goals through a Chloe right foot special and a second from Steph.Only in the last five minutes did Cougars play anything like they are capable of. Terry made some changes and the game was closed out, but he was not a happy manager and told the girls so at the end of the match. They need to improve over this performance if they are going to continue to be the pacesetters in this league.Player of the Match: Alice
