Under 12 GirlsSunday 28th September 2008Elm Grove Colts 0 Woking Cougars U12 Girls 5Cougars U12 Girls maintained their 100% start to the season with an impressive and dominant performance. Despite a few changes, the girls played their best football of the season so far to record their third successive away victory. Although starting slowly, Cougars dominated possession and territory from early in the game, allowing Elm Grove very few opportunities. Cougars pressed and pressed, on several occasions going close as the ball bobbled about in the home penalty area. Eventually their pressure told when Megan found herself unmarked on the far post and slotted home her first goal of the season. A home defender handled in the box but Chloe’s corner was hit straight at the goalkeeper, who saved well as the ball rebounded to safety off her knee. But despite all the pressure, Cougars found the net just once more before half time, this time another penalty area scramble finally going to a Cougars boot as Emily stabbed the ball home.In the second half, Cougars really turned on the style and put on the most skilful display of attacking football yet played by this team. At times, their passing was sublime, their football full of flowing attacks that often left the home defence in tatters. Megan was having a great game on the left wing, Alex was impressing with her strong defending, and debutant Alice Kerr played a controlled game in the sweeping role normally so effectively filled by the absent Ashleigh. All this possession gave Chloe the chance to shine and show her skills. She relished the space provided her, and was responsible for setting up each of the three second half goals. Steph scored the first of those from close range after a probing pass into the box by Chloe. Goal number four was a real team effort, started when Lucy stole the ball from an Elm Grove short corner. Through a couple of short passes the ball was fed along the wing to Chloe. She sprinted up the left, showing her pace as she outran the defence, then delivered a pinpoint cross to an unmarked Steph in the box, who slotted the ball past the keeper. But the best was saved for last. Steph dropped short onto a Chloe corner, and fed the ball back to Chloe, who then whipped it into the box. The cross was met with a thunderbolt Megan volley that flew into the net giving the opposition goalie no chance.A superb performance from Cougars, their best to date, and to be honest it could have been an even greater margin of victory if they had been even more clinical in their finishing. But top of the league after 3 matches is something to shout about. Come on Cougars!!Player of the Match: Chloe
