Under 12 GirlsSunday 1st March 2009South Park 0 Woking Cougars U12G 1Woking Cougars U12G 0 South Park 0The decimation of fixtures caused by the severe winter weather of the last few months meant that Cougars were obliged to play a double header against South Park to catch up on missed matches. They undertook the long trip to Reigate knowing that 6 points would put them firmly in charge at the top of the league. The first match kicked off with Cougars playing up the slope, and Emily went close early on with a rasping shot. Cougars pressed and showed good intent, Steph having a few chances, but, despite forcing several corners, could not find an opening in the opening 20 minutes. The South Park girls showed good speed and no little skill, and their goalkeeper tested the heading ability of our defence with some monstrous clearances. Turning around at 0-0, Cougars had the advantage of playing down the slope in the second half, and within just a few minutes had scored the vital goal. Chloe fired a corner to the far post, where it was scrambled in by Steph after a fumble by the home keeper, who was looking vulnerable. Urged on by Terry, the girls pressed for another to seal the win. Lauren Cowl had a strong shot beaten away, Chloe twice hit the outside of the post, Steph had a couple of one on ones, South Park had 2 clear chances to equalise, but it finished 1-0 to Cougars. After a break of just 10 minutes, match 2 kicked off with Cougars once again playing up the slope. And it was more of the same. A cutting edge lacking in the Cougars finishing that denied them maximum points, although credit must be given to South Park who had some excellent players on show.Ashleigh had another good game at the back, Alice was everywhere as usual and Chloe drove the team on, but player of the match went to Lauren H in goal. She dominated her box, stopped several good shots and her distribution of the ball was excellent.Player of the Match – Lauren H.
