Under 12 GirlsSunday 14th December 2008Woking Cougars U12G 2 Ascot Diamonds 2Just two lapses of concentration was all it took for the Cougars girls to throw away 3 points. Yet again they were guilty of not converting a hatful of chances, and paid the penalty.Ascot had taken the lead early on with a well finished breakaway goal, the Cougars defence having been caught out of position. Ascot are known to have a mean defence, with their well drilled defence wise in the ways of “shutting up shop”. And so, despite Cougars spending virtually the rest of the first period camped in the Ascot half, forcing corner after corner, they could not find a way through. The second half was more of the same, masses of pressure from a Cougars team that is still looking for the missing killer touch. Eventually however, they found an equaliser, another well taken goal by Steph from a long pass by Chloe. That should have been the signal for Cougars to kick on and seal the win, but barley 60 seconds later their second defensive lapse resulted in Ascot taking the lead again. So instead Cougars had to search for another equaliser. Playing with only one up front, Ascot were forced to defend deeper and deeper, and we were treated to the rare sight of Ashleigh in the opposition’s final third of the pitch as Cougars pressed forward. With a huge sigh of relief, the second equaliser did come, from Chloe, to salvage a point. It could still have been all 3 points as a Chloe shot hit the base of the post, but it was not to be. Cougars lack of finishing had let them down again, all this despite at least 80% possession and forcing around 20 corners to Ascot’s none
