U12G1Under 12 GirlsSunday 14th September 2008Barnes Eagles Girls 2 Woking Cougars U12 Girls 9A year older and a year wiser, Woking Cougars U12 Girls gathered in a gloriously sunny SW13 for their first match of a new season. The run of form at the end of last season that saw them go on a 6 game unbeaten streak suggested they could shock a few teams this season, and so it proved as Barnes Eagles never recovered from being blitzed with 3 goals in the first five minutes. Playing as if they had never had a summer break, Cougars gelled straight away, not giving Barnes a look in during these early stages, and soon made it 4-0 with a great free kick from captain Chloe. Steph and Chloe created havoc up front with their pace. Lucy and Megan, sharing the left midfield berth, both put in some strong runs, Ashleigh was her usual cool calm self at the back alongside Emily and Alice dominated the midfield with her relentless running and tackling. The pitch had not been cut the day before, so the long grass was heavy on the legs, and the girls began to tire as Barnes showed what they are capable of and began to come back into the game. Some excellent approach work saw them denied by good goalkeeping from Lauren. Cougars responded, and excellent passing and approach play saw Cougars make it six before halftime, 3 each from Chloe and Steph. For the second half, manger Terry changed things around a bit, putting Alex at fullback and moving Emily (joint top scorer last year despite playing in defence!) to play up front. Barnes produced some good football which saw them dominate the first 10 minutes of the second half, and they were rewarded by pulling two goals back. But once the new formation had bedded down, Cougars began to threaten the Barnes goal again. Megan went close with a header, Alex forced a scrambled save from a shot from inside her own half, and Lucy pushed a shot just left of the post, before Emily finally managed to force one over the line. Barnes were awarded a penalty, only to see it hit the post. Barnes heads dropped and Cougars exploited this, saving their best football for the last five minutes when Emily scored her second of the game and Megan hit the bar. The scoring was completed when Steph scored her fourth just before the end. This was Cougars highest ever win, but in fairness the result was harsh on Barnes. But Cougars can take heart from displaying a ruthless streak previously lacking and let’s hope they can move forward and challenge for honours this season.Player of the Match : Alice U12 G Home page 39WOKING COUGARSThe Football Family http://www.surreyfa.co.uk/ http://www.splsoccer.com http://www.scgl.co.uk/ http://www.make-a-wish.org.uk/ http://www.wphfc.co.uk http://www.jalosty.co.uk http://www.psrcoaching.co.ukThis website was created using MAGIX Website Maker You will need the current version of Adobe Flash Player to view it.
