Surrey County Cup Sunday 2 OctoberWoking Cougars Youth 5 Shelton Athletic 0With Harry out for 2 weeks after Friday's training accident, the rest of the squad was available. The weather was hot and Cougars played uphill into the breeze first half. Starting 11; Callum; Adam Martin Jack P AJ; Sid Lewis Jamie Aidan; Benn George.Cougars started well again with Sid going on his good runs. George then pulled the ball back to Aidan for the first goal. It was 2-0 soon after with Benn setting up Sid. Shelton attacked with AJ making a great tackle to break up play. Callum came to get the ball with a safe pat down. Jack M and Owen came on for Benn and Adam. Aidan then shot wide from in front of the goal. Shelton created a spell of pressure with their left winger, who had plenty of skill, keeping Adam busy. Jack M sliced a clearance over the bar and Cougars defended the resulting corner and series of throws well. Aidan hit a shot over the bar before Cougars had the ball in the net after Sid had hit the crossbar only for it to be ruled offside. George and Jamie came off for Adam and Benn coming on. Callum and Adam combined to keep the ball out and Benn had a good shot well saved. Benn and Owen combined well to set up Aidan for goal number 3 before a great goal from Owen with a good shot from a difficult angle. 4-0 half time.Second half and immediate Cougars pressure now downhill and downwind. A last ditch clearance stopped Owen. Jack M hit a volley just wide from a corner and Jamie had a shot blocked. Aidan and Martin off, Sid and Lewis on. George made the keeper produce a good save. A Shelton attack first broken up by Jack P and then Callum blocking with his head. Callum followed up with a monster drop kick which Owen controlled passing to Sid who shot over from close range. AJ and Jack P off with the centre backs now Martin and Jamie and with Lewis at left back. Martin was using his right peg well in the central position. Sid put in a great cross which no one connected with and Aidan had a shot well saved. Adam made a great tackle to safely clear before George missed from an Aidan through ball. In the closing minutes Owen shot from wide which was dummied into the net by Benn. Video technology has shown Benn got a touch so is awarded the goal. Sid also went on a run late on bringing a good save.Moment of the match: Owen for picking out the top corner for the fourth goal.Man of the match: Jack M for his composure throughout the game and putting his foot on the ball and passing.And credit to the whole team especially the defenders and goalie, 2 hours of football without conceding.
