We had to wait for the ref to finish the other game meaning we would be a late kick off in the Final Score studio.Starting team: Callum: Adam (rb) Martin (lb) AJ Harry (cb): Sid (rm) Jamie (lm) Aidan Jack M (cm): Owen Benn (fwd).Cougars started well, kicking into the strong headwind, with Sid shooting wide from his first run and Owen having a shot half blocked. Sid then went on a long run, always keeping in front of his marker before finishing well for the opening goal. Walton came straight back and had 3 good attacks, Callum catching the first cleanly, clearing the second well to Sid (who was brought down as he launched into another run) and on the edge of the area Callum getting a piece of the ball to keep it out (ball hit post). Cougars went up the other end with Owen crashing in a great shot for 2-0. Cougars were showing great energy all over the pitch winning the 50/50 balls and Adam ran half the pitch to keep a ball in on the touchline in front of the parents. Harry picked up a knock and Jack P came on to replace. Lewis and George too entered the game mid half and were immediately involved, Lewis with a great shot after determined ball winning from Jack P for 3-0. Jack M played a great 1-2 with Sid as Cougars controlled large parts of the game, Aidan playing his normal captain's role. Walton attacked this time with Adam clearing before George made it 4-0 following a sweeping move by Cougars from one end of the pitch to the other. Half time whistle blown.A change of Walton goalie had him in action early with Sid putting in a great cross which was caught well. Good skill from Benn led to a corner. The corner delivery was good all day (Owen and Sid sharing duties). This corner caused chaos in the Walton box with Aidan having a pop before George turned it in. It became noticeable how well Callum and our defenders had done to clear the ball into the strong headwind in the first half because goal kicks from the deck were not going much distance beyond the penalty area. From these failed kicks Aidan had a great shot saved, a poked shot saved, and Benn shot wide before George found the net for his hatrick. Walton at this stage were just penned in, Callum was playing sweeper so on the few times Walton moved the ball up the pitch it could be launched straight back down the other end. Adam went on a mazy run before George made it 7, with the wind again holding the ball up, George was able to make it 8 with his 5th goal. Sid went wide with an effort. Cougars hit a 9th after brave work by Sid with a George assist for Owen to finish. Finishing 11: Callum; Jack M Martin Jack P Harry; Sid Lewis Jamie Aidan; Owen George. All the boys were truly awesome today, all 14 having excellent games.Moment of the match: Callum for 4 moments of the match in the first half when there was pressure on Cougars and he cleared 4 times from excellent positioning.Man of the match: Martin for being excellent in everything he did, tackling, passing, positioning. And the match ball to George for 5 goals!
