Fortunately he was in the wrong and it looked like our first game of the season was in fact going to go ahead. Our first outing in the league at 11 a side was dawning and playing a team with a couple of very quick players, having lost 4-0 in friendly just weeks previously. We were without Andrew and George this morning and having lost a player in the closed season we embarked with 12. Nick pulled the guys together and the starting line up consisted of Dawid, Jacob, Sam, Marko, Ben. The midfield from right to left Ben J, Stephen, Nathan and Shane, with Callum and Cormac up top.We were asleep for the first ten minutes and it resulted in us conceding a very poor goal from not clearing the ball in the box. Nick switched it around with Louis replacing Ben at left back. We then started to up our game after getting used to the pitch. Callum and Cormac both had weak efforts saved, but the boys were starting to play football. In true colt’s style, a momentary lapse in concentration resulted in us conceding again, with Dawid given no chance. That seemed to wake us up again and some good work from Stephen in the midfield resulted in Callum receiving the ball and in turn releasing our whippet Ben J down the right. Ben beat a player prior to squaring to Stephen, who shot and scored. First goal of the new season and a good strike to open.Nick changed it around at half time and brought Ben on for Marko and left the rest unchanged. For the first five minutes we were asleep and it was left to our superstar stopper Dawid to keep us in the game. He made two amazing reaction saves to the applause of home and away fans alike. He couldn’t keep them all out and now we were 3-1 down.We then stepped up a gear and after some good work from Shane down the left, (with some assistance from Nathan) slotted it into Callum. The ball was hit by their player to the keeper and despite the refs best efforts, their keeper picked it up and he awarded a free kick. Dubious decision but Ben J calmly passed to Callum, who accepted the decision and Beat the advancing 8 players to score. We then won a corner and Ben J took a clever short one to Callum, who ran into the box and with the keeper advancing, played the ball across to Shane to score into an empty net.Great game and a vast improvement from the previous week. First point of the new seasonMan of the Match – Ben J – Was instrumental in the equaliser and ran all gameMoment of the Match – Dawid – some quality saves.
