U13 Colts run ragged
Colts were bundled out of the County Cup at the hands of Mitcham. The Stripes were too much to handle for an out of sorts Colts side as they couldn't get to grips with a vibrant Stripes side who were intent on getting the better of the Colts. In theory there were two divisions difference but that was soon dispelled after the first few minutes as Colts were quickly on the back foot.
And it didn't get better. There were a few spells where Cougars managed to get their foot on the ball, but they were few and far between. Even when they did manage to string a few passes together, the Stripes defence was well marshalled and it was hard work.
For all that, the first goal was harsh on Colts - and Owen especially - as a free kick was helped on in the box and took a pretty heavy bounce off a hard pitch, leaping up into the top corner leaving Owen with no chance. That galvanised Stripes even more and took any belief that there might have been out of Colts. With a dominating presence in midfield and a lively striker force, it was all too much for Colts and the goals were racking up.
At 3-0 there was some brief hope as Owen made a stunning penalty save and then followed up to clear up the rebound. But it was vain hope as Stripes seemed to be able to run round/through the Colts at will and notched up a fair tally - many of them via their giant in the centre.
Too many times, Mitcham were picking up the ball in the midfield area and running at the Colts back four. With a distinct lack of support, the defence was up against it and with the Stripes very effective at getting balls into the box from their offensive runs, they almost picked off the Colts at will. A few things to work on in training!
In the end Mitcham ran out worthy 7-0 winners and Colts need to lick their wounds and get back on track.
