Under-9 boys strike new partnership with Woking & Sam Beare Hospice

By Rachel Turner

Woking Cougars under-9 boys marked the launch of a new shirt sponsorship deal with Woking & Sam Beare Hospice on Saturday 11 November 2017.

The squad are promoting the local charity on its shirts to help raise awareness of - and funds for – the hospice. The deal was made possible through donations from Woking Cougars Football Club and from individual donations with people involved with the club.

Michael Loader, Cougars under-9 age group manager, said: “We pride ourselves on being a community club and our partnership with Woking & Sam Beare Hospice allows us to contribute even more.”

The under-9 boys will proudly display the hospice logo on home and away match day shirts and help in a number of other ways including:
• Encouraging individual donations via an online fundraising page https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/wokingcougarsu9
• Promoting participation in 2018 Hospice fundraising events including the Prudential Ride London-Surrey cycle ride and the Dragon Boat Races
• Organising fundraising events including a 5-a-side marathon and fun day
All money raised will be tracked via the dedicated fundraising page so people can see the accumulating effect of everyone’s efforts.

Phil Wormley, director of fundraising at Woking & Sam Beare Hospice, added: “What a refreshing change for Woking Cougars Football Club to, in effect, sponsor us. The club has a great track record of providing excellent sports training for the community so we are pleased to work with them to help raise awareness and funds, as we continue our good work across Surrey.”

The under-9 group consists of 40 children playing in four teams, each playing to a good standard in Surrey youth leagues. During the next two years the group is looking to raise as much money as possible for Woking & Sam Beare Hospices.

About Woking & Sam Beare Hospice
Woking & Sam Beare Hospice is a patient-centred charity that delivers specialist palliative care to adult patients of all ages who have life-limiting and terminal illnesses. We cover the North West Surrey region, providing free of charge holistic care and support services for patients, their families and carers. We care for over 1,400 patients both in our hospice and in their own homes (where over 70% of our care is delivered), enabling patient choice and the best quality of life.

We are a charity, and while we receive some government funding, around 75% of what we deliver is funded through our charity shops and fundraising activities. We could not do this without the generosity of all of our supporters, volunteers and the local community.
