History

About Woking CougarsWe are a club run by volunteer parents, dedicated people who genuinely enjoy giving up their leisure time to the benefit of the boys and girls of the club. All managers and coaches are vetted by the police and undertake the Surrey FA Level 1 Managers Coaching Course incorporating child protection and first aid. We are a close knit family club with a friendly atmosphere, we boast a sound reputation locally of team spirit and togetherness. We have experienced outstanding success both on and off the field, success that can only be attributed to positive parental support and commitment. We have recently joined ranks with Woking and Horsell FC, a move which provides an opportunity for our older players to progress in the future. Each team provides a parent representative to assist our Social & Fundraising Manager and Club Stewardess with the organisation of social activities. On this point any parent wishing to become involved is welcomed, encouraged and supported and would also participate in a child protection course. Socially, we organise, race nights, karaoke, Dads football and many other enjoyable events for parents, and for the youngsters our free Christmas party and end of season Trophy Night, when all our members receive recognition for their efforts, are part of what makes being a ‘Cougar’ a lot of fun. During the summer months (April-September) training is held at St Johns Lye and Winston Churchill School on Fridays and Goldsworth Park on Tuesdays (girls) and Thursdays from 6.00pm. Winter training from October until March is held on the astro pitches at Winston Churchill School, Sythwood School and Woking Hockey Club at various times.Home matches for the majority of the teams are played on the excellent pitches at West End Recreation Ground, arguably the finest ground in the area, which we value highly. Refreshments are served at all home matches thanks to the parents sparing an hour of their valuable time and all offers of help is appreciated. Woking Cougars play host to 80 teams at our own 2-day summer tournament, an enormous fundraising event that requires everyone’s support. Our teams enter many other local football tournaments as well as tours further afield during this very enjoyable time of the year.We intend to recruit each year at the under 6 age group so that in the future we can provide football for youngsters of all ages. All players are offered a three-week free trial but should register at the earliest opportunity to take full advantage of the players’ injury insurance provided by the club.
