U7 Colts Season 2007 / 2008 SPL under 7 Div ?

Woking Cougars vs Abbey Rangers (AR)

What with the Cougars disco the night before and the clocks going forward, well done to all the party animals for turning up for this one.  DJ Tone ditched his turntables for a whistle and the match started.  The Ref ignored the banter from the touchline, especially the comment that “looking at the refs’ legs reminded one parent of a piano he used to own!”

AR definitely got into their stride quicker than our boys (they must have a different timezone in Ottershaw) and we had to do a lot of defending.  The constant pressure finally resulted in a goal in the 6th minute 1-0 to them!  Only a minute later Andrew had to make a great save to keep it at that.

Then our boys started to play.  Callum took the ball up the pitch and crossed to Alex who did what he does best and blasted the ball in the back of the net 1-1.

It was end to end stuff for the rest of the first half with Louis clearing off the goal line and Alex hitting the crossbar.  Unfortunately the Ref was a little slow in blowing for the end of the first half and AR squeezed a shot into the corner of our goal 2-1 at half time.

The 2nd half saw some changes with Callum, Kier and Rohail coming off and the fresh legs of Ryan, Dan and Nathan coming on.  AR came back on and put us under a lot of pressure with Andrew pulling outr some great saves.  Callum and Kier came back on and with 10 mins to go the boys stepped up a gear and eventually were rewarded with a fantastic left footed goal by Kier 2-2.  With only a minute left on the clock (not sure the Ref was checking his watch??) AR scored an unstoppable goal putting them in the lead again and although we had some great last minute attempts the game came to an end with the scoreline at 3-2 to AR.

The boys really played well and ran their socks off.  None more so than the McVities Jaffa Cake Man of the Match Louis.  (Note to Kate – Nick had the real trophy in his kit bag all along!)

The above report was brought to you by an extremely hungover Mrs Hopson who is sorry if she missed out any vital moments from the match!

9th March 2008 Cougars 1 v Feltham Blues 1

Sunday 9th March Cougars U7 played Feltham Blues at home finally. With no Rohail or Callum, Andrew stepped in as goal keeper and Nathan was Captain. For the first half AJ & Louie were defence, Nathan & Kier Midfield with Dan & Alex up front and Ryan as Sub . Kate was our referee{a great job she did}.

.Right from Kick off it was very end to end with neither gaining advantage, Kier did well using his head on several occasions & it was about 8 minutes before half time when Feltham scored a looping shot over Andrews head giving him no chance. Louis and AJ were solid in defence maintaining the score 1 -0 at half time.

Pet talk from Nick telling them to apply more pressure Nathan  came off Ryan on for the second half working hard with Dan and  Alex  creating a few chances unfortunate not to score. Feltham played a long ball up field giving Andrew room to rush out of goal knowing he could not pick it up he passed it to  Louis who in turn  passed to AJ who took the ball up field threading it through  to Alex who scored with 6 minutes to go creating a big  roar from the home fans. Feltham increased the pressure but to no avail and late on there was a free kick awarded to cougar  with Alex forcing a great save from there keeper, Final score 1-1 with   Man of match going to  AJ .Well done to all the boys it was a tough game.

02/03/08 Farncombe Youth 0 v Cougars 3

With the sun shining and bitterly cold wind, the U7’s (minus Nathan and Rohail due to illness) started the first half shooting downhill.  It did not take long for Andrew to take the 1st shot on goal only to be saved by the blow of the refs whistle.  This was soon followed by Dan making a good run from the ½ way line (foot a lot better) and with Alex doing his usual thing of shooting at the target only to be saved by the Farncombe keeper.

With a great goal kick, our trusted defenders AJ and Louis were put to work and proved themselves yet again taking the ball back into play for Cougars.  A corner kick was met by Keir who headed the ball into the back of the net to score our 1st goal.

Farncombes No. 7 ran like his life depended on it and had a great attempt on goal but good luck was shining down on Cougars as the ball just brushed past the post carefully watched by Callum who was ready and waiting to make a save. The 1st half finished with a superb run by AJ, a back flick by Dan and Louis showing his fab ball skills – proves that training in all weathers does pay off!!!

After manager Nick and coach Dave having a chat with the boys, who were all glad to receive their refreshments, the 2nd half showed Ryan replacing Dan on the pitch.  Less than a minute into the 2nd half Alex added to the score sheet with a great goal.  Farncombe ran the ball to their No. 7 and Keir, doing what his manager told him, stuck to him like glue and took the ball from him.  Unfortunately, this caused Farncombes No. 8 to take the ball straight in the face causing a lot of ooohs from the touchline as if we had felt it ourselves.  However, this did not distract the young player at all and he carried on – a true fighter, well done.

Andrew, with pure grit and determination, ran up the field, passed the ball to Alex who put the ball in the back of the net making the final score Farncombe 0 Cougars 3.

The man of the match trophy was awarded to Andrew who undoubtedly made the last goal and proved himself throughout the 40 minutes of play as did the whole team.

Fantastic play by all the boys.  Well done and keep up the good team work

Worplesdon Rangers v Cougars U7  Sunday 24th February

It was looking like Cougars may have to compete with out any subs
for the second week running when, with minutes to go, our parent rep
turned the sat nav the right way up and located the correct ground
bringing with her several key members of the squad. A giddy-up from
Coach Nick and the team were chomping at the bit and under starters
 orders.

With crampons bound, Cougars were to play the first half kicking
uphill against Worplesdon's physical presence.
From the off it was clear this was going to be a tough
game with the first 10 minutes being an onslaught to the Cougars rear
guard. Returning to goal, refreshed from his Italian spring camp,
Callum pulled off some spectacular saves and Louis and AJ battled
hard to defend the line. For Worplesdon No. 25 showed great ball skill
but standing firm Cougars slowly advanced out of their half and soon the bullet boots of Alex were called to action as he roasted a scorcher inches to the left of the Worplesdon goal. Few chances came and went for both sides, Andrew,
Rohail and Dan answering the call to support both the defence and
attack in metronomic fashion. Eventually Worplesdon's #25 broke
ranks, somehow shimmied past six players and toe poked the first goal in
the fourth minute of extra time at the end of the first half.
A belly load of jaffa cakes, some motivational words, an
instruction to Keir to stick to #25 like glue, some random pointing and
fidgeting from the team and we were ready. A tactical change saw
Ryan come on to partner Alex up front and Nathan to join Keir in
midfield. Worplesdon came out of the blocks. Shell shocked the Cougars showed great resilience before mounting a counter offensive of some ferocity. AJ's had an attempt on goal, Alex's corner rockets and Nathan's porridge driven determination to snuff out any attempts Worplesdon had to clear their half.

With 7 minutes of normal time remaining the imperious team effort
paid off when Alex tore down the fall line and did what he does best –
slammed the ball into the back of the net. The ref finally blew up
for a 1-1 draw. However, the lack of mentions for #25 in the second
half was down to our man of the match who listened to the coach and
carried out his orders with exemplary efficiency, Keir deservingly reaped
the applause from the capacity crowd. Well played that man.

Footnote:
The current Mrs. Rosher would like to quash any rumours that the contents of her bottle is gin. It is in fact Vodka.

 17/02/08 Frimely Green Eagles 3 v Cougars 1

This was always going to be a tough match with Frimley Green coming
into it with an unbeaten record and Cougars still missing three players,
and so it was, with Frimley eventually winning 3-1.

Callum, Keir and Rohail were all unavailable, which meant that Cougars
only had 7 players, all of which played the full 40mins. Well done to
all for that.

Frimley were a big team and were well set up, however Cougars did have
a chance to go one up within the first 20 seconds, had it not been for a
good save by their keeper from Alex. Cougars had the run of play for the
first minutes, but Frimley broke and scored with their first attempt on
goal. After this, it was a fairly even half with Andrew making a number
of saves and the defence, as usually held firm by AJ, keeping FGEs at
bay for the rest of the half

Dan (Sore foot), Nathan and Ryan demonstrated their usual resilience,
playing against far bigger lads than themselves, with each playing their
heart out. The second half was very similar to the first with Cougars
holding their own, a brief lapse gave FGE their second before hard
chasing from Alex forced one of their players to put the ball past their
own keeper. A late goal gave FGE a flatering 3-1 win

Final word should go to Louis who was, very deservedly, the Cougars Man
of the Match. Louis played his heart out and never once pulled out of a
tackle, with boys far bigger than himself. At one stage, he tackled,
fell and tackled again three times in one short passage of play. Well
done Louis.

10/02/08 Abbey Rangers 0 v Cougars 5

Sunday 10th Feb Cougars U7 played Abbey Rangers, Chertsey.
On a sunny Sunday afternoon away to Abbey Rangers, Woking Cougars U7's
arrived.
All a little apprehensive due to the fact we had heard of Abbey's
abilities and the Bobby Moore league is still new to us. We arrived
with only 1 sub due to illness and recovery. Hope your feeling better
very soon Keir and Rohail. Our No1 GK Callum was up front with our goal
machine Alex. Andrew who normally partners Alex was in goal. AJ and
Louie our Trojans in defense. Dan, Ryan and Nathan in mid field.
The game was 1 sided and Andrew got to make a clean save by Abbey's
only attempt. When Abbey got past our boys in mid field, AJ and Louie
masterfully got the ball back to Alex and Callum. Alex scored 4
magnificent goals and lined Callum up for a great first goal for him.
Ryan completed some nice passes up front to try and increase the goal
tally. Dan was tenacious in mid field and even surprised himself with
the power of his right foot.
Nathan was moved to mid field, and it was obvious he had had his ready
brek that morning! He ran his socks off and quite rightly came away
with the MOTM trophy.
Abbey admitted they had 3 key players absent which may have made for a
more juicy game, but hey ho!!
Well Done the Cougar Boys
