U11 Season 2007 / 2008 SPL under 11 Div ?

14/10/07 Cougars  1 Elm Grove 3

These are the sort of games we need if we are going to improve.  Just like our friendlies against Meadow ‘A’, Wimbledon and Halliford, Grove were formidable opponents, after completing the League and Cup double the year before.  We had to defend deeply for the opening 15 minutes, but then found our feet.  Just before half time a goal from James saw us 1-0 up at half time, probably against the run of play.  The boys were warned of a likely response at half time, but it didn’t stop Grove equalising in the first minute of the second half.  The game was then very open and end to end until we missed a good 1 on 1 chance and then had one cleared off the line.  This was to prove decisive as Elm Grove pressed to score two quick goals to kill off the game.

The opposition celebrated at the end of the game, meaning we must have given them a decent test, and we now look forward to our next test against Burpham

7/10/07 Guildford City 1 Cougars  6

Guildford City are always a tough opposition and this win was hard fought, with a little luck when it mattered.  Another early goal by Kyle, followed shortly after by one from Lorenzo saw us 2-0 up.  A superb save by Alistair kept us ahead 2-0 at half time.  After being pushed back early in the second half the week before, we were determined not to be caught again.  Further goals from James (3) and Lorenzo, sandwiching a good reply from City, in a very good second half saw us eventually win 6-1.

30/9/07 Cougars 4 Meadow Sports 1

After moving up from Division 3 to the Premier in one go, we were expecting a tough game with our near neighbours Meadow Sports.  Three quick early goals from Ben R, James and Kyle left us 3-0 up at half time.  The boys were warned of a reaction from our opposition, which came in the second half.  An improved performance from them left the score at 3-1, until a breakaway goal from Lorenzo left the final score 4-1.
